Noted restaurateur Dick Cami and his two sons open Grumpy Dicks in Plantation.
When it comes to great seafood at great prices, nobody does it better than the Cami family. Dick, the father started the Camis Seashells chain of restaurants in 1986. He proved that great fish could be served at reasonable prices. In 1996 he opened Crabby Dicks in Key West, which is still operating and has received rave reviews. Richie, his son, opened the Islamorada Fish Company restaurant in Dania five years ago and introduced the very popular sushi bar, praised for its quality by both customers and critics.
Now Dick, Richie and John, his other son who opened Oar House in Davie in 1998, have landed in Plantation and are showing ecstatic diners just how good a moderate priced seafood restaurant can be. The restaurant, located in The Fountains Shopping Plaza on University Drive, is open for both lunch and dinner and offers a special Sushi menu. A unique Grumpy Hour starts at 3pm and offers full bar service and specials as well as Murph, the colorful bartender who actually shoots fire from his mouth. (You gotta see it to believe it!)
For dinner, you can get a dozen freshly shucked oysters, Delicious coconut shrimp with homemade marmalade sauce and a house salad. Jumbo shrimp gently simmered in cream sauce over pasta, Penne shrimp pesto, Pasta Marinara, Soft shell crab sandwich, Char-grilled shrimp, scallops and fresh catch over rice. As well as an array of char-grilled fresh fish, Bimini stone crabs, fresh whole snapper and lobster at market price. In addition there are great dinner salads and chicken and steak meals offered. For dessert you can enjoy a Pee Wee sundae, a hot fudge brownie sundae or homemade Key Lime pie. (This pie is outstanding and made from scratch from a special recipe.)
The extensive lunch menu served until 4pm, offers items such as fried scallops, fried oysters, clam or conch chowder, deep fried calamari, classic Caesar salad, Grumpy Greek salad, fresh pasta, Buffalo chicken wings and more. The full dinner menu is also available for lunch and you can dine both indoors or al fresco on the terrace area.
There is also an awesome sushi bar that chef Mark Lee oversees. Lee opened the sushi bar at The Islamorada Fish Company three years ago and everything is super fresh and delicious.
*FYI: Dick Cami owned the celebrated Top of the Home in Hollywood for years, a hangout for celebrities and VIPs, and was the man who opened the legendary Peppermint Lounge home of the Twist-- in New York City and in Miami. He is a most charismatic gentleman and superb story teller who some have called a cross between Will Rogers and Mother Teresa.
